While her children slept, Angelina Jolie worked on a screenplay that would ultimately become her first feature film as a writer and director, In the Land of Blood and Honey. The movie, which tells the story of love and war in Bosnia during the 1990s, is now being released in theaters. Jolie admits to feeling vulnerable as she steps into this new role, but is excited to share her passion project with the world. During an interview on location in Malta, Jolie discusses how the film pushed her outside of her comfort zone and shares Brad Pitt’s opinion that it will make her a “nightmare.”
According to Jolie, her Balkan actors were crucial to telling the story in the movie. She emphasizes that their willingness to participate was essential, and if they had declined, she would not have proceeded with the project.
